KAYLIE & JOEL

When Kaylie reached out about doing a maternity shoot, we were thrilled. We first met her at one of our favorite breakfast spots in Boulder, and we hit it off right away. We stayed in touch on Instagram, so when she found Joel and shared the news of their growing family, we were overjoyed.
Kaylie was about 35 weeks pregnant when we arrived at their apartment on a chilly February day. Their beautifully curated home smelled of fresh-baked cookies and incense. We unpacked our gear and transformed their living room into a cozy little studio. By rearranging some furniture and positioning them near the windows, we captured the soft, natural light. It felt so special to be there, capturing these final weeks before the baby’s arrival.
While we shot Kaylie by herself, Joel was behind us, cheering her on and encouraging her the entire time. It was genuinely heartwarming to see his support, making Kaylie feel even more confident and beautiful.
We also created a playlist of their favorite artists—Billy Strings, Grateful Dead, and Fleetwood Mac. Having their music play in the background kept the session relaxed and joyful.
Ty captured all these sweet, intimate moments on camcorder video. Watching it back added a deeply personal touch and made the moments feel even more special.
After wrapping up the indoor session, we headed to Flagstaff Mountain. The winter landscape was absolutely stunning and made for the perfect backdrop. It was wonderful to see Kaylie and Joel exploring the mountain together. Kaylie, who self-identifies as a hippie, was right at home, soaking up the outdoor sunshine and enjoying the fresh air.
